If you can't ride it...read about it!

Sturgis is done but not gone....
The district commander in charge of the South Dakota Highway Patrol's western district said he's frustrated by the number of accidents during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally the Aberdeen News reports. Read the whole story here....

Missing Sturgis??? CLUB H.O.G. Chattanooga starts August 26th!!
Chattanooga will become hog heaven next week as thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world converge on the city for CLUB H.O.G. Chattanooga. For two days, H.O.G. members will revel in everything Harley-Davidson and Chattanooga have to offer, including musical entertainment, a chapter parade of flags and even an early bird party – Thunder on the Tracks - on Thursday at Thunder Creek Harley-Davidson from 5–9:30 p.m. More........

I wouldn't want to be the one who had to file this report!
I've always wondered if people had the guts to mess with anything official, police cars, bikes, etc. I guess someone does and has left some very embarrassed enforcement officers in Memphis, Tennessee. Police are investigating how someone slipped into a storage room in the West Precinct on Sunday night and stripped one of their Harley-Davidson motorcycles of most of its parts. The patrol. More..............

Probably the nicest thing I've seen on a bike in a while.
Dagmar Midcap host of Global TV's Driving Television program acted as the master of ceremonies at the 11th Canadian National Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.). Midcap travels around the world testing new vehicles and motorcycles. She tests around 60 or 70 different models annually, including the track test of a $600,000 Porsche Carrera GT in California.

She has some nice things to say about bikes and bikers here......

That's a...uh...good looking....uh....bike...yeah that's it...good looking bike

And you thought Harley's are expensive!
Boss Hoss founder Monte Warne is the first person to create a motorcycle that uses a Chevy V-8 engine and has a traditional cruiser motorcycle style. The Boss Hoss company produces one motorcycle per day off their production line in Dyersberg, Tennessee, and these bikes will cost you a minimum $50,000 . But according to Radu, the only Boss Hoss promoter in Western Canada and one of only two in the entire country, once you drive one nothing else will compare. Read about it in the Airdrie Echo.....

Sad, but at least Justice is being served
State police have charged a Dover man with running two motorcyclists off the road, killing one and injuring the other. Willis R. Miller, 27, of the 4000 block of W. Denneys Road, surrendered to detectives at Delaware State Police Troop 3 this morning to face charges of second-degree murder and second-degree assault. He was committed to the Delaware Correctional Center after failing to post $110,000 bail. Read about it in Delaware Online.....

A point to note in the news story is that neither motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, which leads us too......

And finally, the rising motorcycle traffic accidents are still making the news
As I mentioned before National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released their study last week which reported that although traffic deaths declined and fewer people were killed in alcohol-related crashes on U.S. highways for a second straight year, motorcycle fatalities grew nearly 8 percent last year to 4,008.

When the San Bernadino Sun story led with the headline of 'Boomers dying more often on motorcycles' you had to know it wasn't going to be pro-choice on the helmet debate.

It visits the age issue of older riders adding to the statistics 'Of the 1,015,488 California residents licensed to operate motorcycles at the start of this year, 57 percent are ages 40 to 59. Baby boomers seem to underestimate the skills it takes to ride a motorcycle, says Robert Gladden, project manager for California Motorcyclist Safety Program'. Read more of the article here...

The Lansing State Journal takes a more human approach to the issue, 'Gary Leu had been thinking about buying a motorcycle, but his interest disappeared fast. His older brother was killed in a crash Aug. 8, leaving another family to mourn a tragic result of riding motorcycles'. Here's the full article.....
